Who We Are

Joining Hearts was formed over 23 years ago by a group of a dozen friends. Each of them made a one-hundred dollar investment to help underwrite the cost of a party in Atlanta with all proceeds going to help people with HIV/AIDS.

Our first event was held in 1987 at the Golden Key Club and raised close to $10,000, but more importantly the community’s awareness toward HIV/AIDS was heightened. The following year, more people wanted to be a part of Joining Hearts and from that enthusiasm the tradition of the annual Joining Hearts event began. After the first year, the original committee decided that proceeds should not just benefit HIV/AIDS awareness, but the committee instead chose to designate the funds to meet the more critical need of people living with HIV/AIDS in Atlanta — housing.

We are Atlanta’s oldest HIV/AIDS fundraiser and guarantee that 100% of event tips and ticket sales are donated directly to help maintain a home for people living with HIV/AIDS in
Atlanta.

Each year, the host committee makes personal contributions to defray costs. Local businesses provide sponsorships and pitch in with cash contributions and items such as decorations, food, flowers and other party essentials.

Our events have grown in number, size, scope and reputation. We have become one of the most well known HIV/AIDS non-profits in Atlanta, and have previously earned the distinction of “Best Special Night/Benefit” by the local media.

In 2009, Joining Hearts was proud to make an annual donation of $93,000 to AID Atlanta and Jerusalem House, bringing Joining Hearts’ cumulative giving to over $1,029,500!
